IL Day 1 Highlights
The first full day of Internet Librarian was great fun. My presentation when surprisingly well except for a minor issue when I did the live demo. I figured out what was wrong (something really dumb) and have attached a simple screencast demo of our Content Management System to the presentation section of this blog.
The presentation on BookBurro and Flock were wonderful. I’m really glad that xxx got invited to speak. I got some really good ideas from the presentation and liked fact that Flock is trying to integrate the social networking tools into web browsers.
Then I got a chance to talk to John Blyberg about how to get data out of Innovate to incorporate into a library website. In addition to being incredibly smart, John is also very humble and helpful. He showed me some functions he had written to interact with the Innovative patron API and that I could download and reuse. This was great becauseI need to work on doing some authentication off of the patron API in the near future. Thanks to John I think that we go much more smoothly. We also talked about the Innovative XML server which has been pulled. Sigh, this is incredibly frustrating for me because we have several project we need this for and don’t have time to wait. I got some ideas about how to potentially get around this. However, from my perspective without the XML server this will be much more work.
In the evening, a bunch of folks got together at the Crown and Anchor to hang out, chat, and network. A great time was had by all and I promise I’ll post pics later.
