I’ve just been reading the basic release notes for WordPress 2.1 and I’m pretty excited about what I’m seeing. Below are a few of the features that I’m really excited about.

  • Spellchecking – I can’t spell well so I’m really looking forward to this. Granted since I moved to Firefox 2.0 I already have spellchecking but I’m glad that WordPress now includes it as well.
  • You can set any page as your front page. – This is cool because it makes WordPress even more of a content management system. I’m going to have to check this out because I’ve been thinking about changing the structure of my blog for a while.
  • It auto-saves things – I don’t know how many times I’ve lost a post because I didn’t save things. The new version will keep this from happening and I’m psyched about that.
  • Pages can now be drafts, or private – Hurray! I don’t know how long I’ve been annoyed because I couldn’t make a page not appear when I was still working on getting it ready for prime time. I’m SO glad that they’ve added this feature because my life just got much easier.

I haven’t done the upgrade yet. I’ll probably wait a little while. Mostly because of my plugins. In particular I’m concerned about my tagging plugin and Podpress. Still I think WordPress 2.1 has a lot of promise and I’m looking forward to getting a chance to play with it.

Yes I am a big fan of firefox’ spellcheck plugin! I could not live without it. I’m still trying to decide if I want to use WPMU or WP2.1. How was Mu worked out for you guys?
