Mac Book Pro Resurrected
The experts at work were able to resurrect my Mac Book Pro today. Although I still have to reinstall my software, it is nice to have a functioning computer again. (And YAY it works off the network!) It seems I went wrong with my Leopard install; it tried to do an upgrade rather than a fresh install. I had no idea this is what I was doing because the install screens didn’t enlighten me. Oh well. Live and learn. I also got advice about other software for running virtual machines. I will say while other people have had issues with Parallels my experiences have been positive thus far but I’m always willing to give new things a shot. Particularly since I’m going to need to run an Ubuntu VM for the Evergreen preconference at code4lib.
The big challenge was getting things put back together in my spare moments this week. You see I was in training for our new digital library software most of the week, which left me a few hours each morning and Friday to get things put back together. Luckily I’m almost done. I’m still trying to get my Virtual machines (old and new) set up. But on the bright side, I’ve really taken a shine to VMWare Fusion over Parallels. This is partially because there are appliances all ready to load but also because I like how it works a little bit better. It seems to make more efficient use of the computer.
So once I complete setting up my virtual machines my computer will be restored and I’ll be all ready to go for code4lib!
