More on web server log file
May 6th, 2004 by Karen
So I have been meaning to get this more in depth post about web server logs up last week. However, I caught a fierce cold last week and have been reeling ever since. But I final have my act together and have found some good and inexpensive tools for doing web server log analysis. Check out my story Web Server Log Analysis Tools and Tips.
Right now I am testing a tool call AWStats. This open source tool written in Perl provides all the basics of a web log analysis tool and best of all its free. In a tight budget year, this tool is a potential lifesaver for me. I have been campaigning to get a copy of Web Trends, the quintessential web server log analysis tool, for the last year and a half. However, Web Trends costs close to $500 for the small business version. So we have been paying a consultant to run my web server log files through an analysis tool instead. If AWStats works out though I'll be able to run my log files myself. I'll let everyone know how it works out.
