Cross Browser Testing
In the course of conducting accessibility testing on our library's WebOPAC, I used a variety of web browsers. Some of these included Firefox, Opera, Mozilla, Netscape, Internet Explorer, and Lynx. Perhaps the most difficult one of these to find a copy of (on the PC platform) was Lynx. In the past I was using a copy of Lynx on an old campus VMS machine. When that machine went away I no longer had a text only browser to test in and didn't find the “emulators” satisfactory. However, now a version of Lynx is available for the PC. You can download it from http://csant.info/lynx.htm There are also nice links here to information about how to use Lynx as a browser. If you are a text-based browser notice these will be lifesavers. Check out in particular, Lynx Help for Beginners - http://www.chass.utoronto.ca/~purslow/lhfb.html .
My biggest problem now is an inability to test pages in Safari the default web browser on new Macs. I really don't need ANOTHER computer but I haven't figured out a good way to test yet. Often I will go check out what stuff looks like in on of the campuses Macintosh labs. However, this is not a very good way to test on an ongoing basis. Does anyone have suggestions about a better way to test Safari?
