Job Shift
So I have a new title and job description at work. I am now the Electronic Services Librarian, which in addition to being a shorter title (I was fka the Information Technology and Instruction Librarian), formally acknowledges a bunch of stuff that I have taken on over the course of the last 3 1/2 years. Overall, it doesn't change my duties much. However, it is nice to finally get something in writing that demonstrates a recognition of the growing technology need/demands of the library, particularly in relationship to the web. So while I will continue to have a say in and provide web application support for the library's website, I am passing that torch of primary responsibility for the library's website to another very deserving librarian.
I will now be refocusing my efforts on “web-based” systems: ILLiad, SFX, the library's online catalog, library intranet, RSS, and other database-driven and XML-based applications. It is nice to have progressed to a place where I need both my primary web skills and another skill set entirely (XML, databases, etc). I'm excited about the whole thing (because both the library's site and web-based applications will FINALLY get the attention they deserve), but also I am still trying to get used to the idea of not having to spin so many plates at one time.
