XML Experiments
Argh! Major frustration today. I am trying to use this nifty tool I found for Radio that is supposed to export my posts as one big RSS feed. Of course it isn't working and I have read and re-read the instructions at least twenty times. I sent off an email to the person who created the tool and will hope he emails me back, eventually.
I have to laugh because I have spent the last week and a half playing with XML stuff with only small successes. Mostly my troubles have involved getting the data exported. Either the export doesn't work at all (as in the case of Radio) or it doesn't work correctly (I have a lovely improperly encoded (UTF-8) piece of XML that I exported from one of our library system). All and all it is majorly frustrating. Particularly after I spent a bunch of hours developing XSLs to format the XML data. Gee I thought that was supposed to be the difficult part. Guess again.
Well, I'm going back to re-reading Roy Tennant's “XML in Libraries” book for inspiration. I wouldn't have started these projects if it wasn't for hearing him talk at Computers in Libraries two years ago then reading the darn book. At least I can console myself with the thought that these things don't always work exactly as they should on the first try.
