XP Service Pack 2 Testing
So I finally got my testing of XPSP2 done and it wasn't as bad as I had
thought. SFX works fine with things set on medium (the default) or low.
The high setting seems to break everything involving pop-ups and the
only way around it is to put the urls for the sites you don't want
blocked in the allowed sites table. I'm going to suggest this as the
standard setup for campus computers. That way if someone gets ambitious
and turns the pop-up blocker on high at least it won't mess up the
library resources.
I also did some testing of our web-based catalog which turned out quite
well on the medium (the default) or low settings. I'm glad that we
migrated to a newer version of the catalog in January though
becaus the old version doesn't work well with pop-ups blocked. One
issue is that the staff portion of the catalog doesn't behave right
unless things are set on low or the catalog url is in allowed sites
table. Too many crucial pop-ups it seems. This is definitely something
we are going to have to configure on the staff computers that receive
XP SP2. All and all not too bad considering the fact that I expected
this to be a much bigger issue.
