Library Web Chic celebrates it one year anniversary !
I’ve been so busy trying to get stuff done of late that I neglected to mention that my blog was a year old on March 28. Its been a great year. I had articles published, got to go to great conferences, see pretty places (California rocks!), and meet new people. Its been great, but so busy I’m somewhat surprised I have survived my first year of blogging! I said when I started that if I didn’t post for a month I would quit but I just renewed the domain name so I have incentive to keep going. Plus I have lots of new stuff that I am doing that I can’t wait to talk about!
First, I just finished an article on privacy issues for the June issue of Computers in Libraries. The article is similar content to what I presented at Computers in Libraries this spring but has a bit more technical detail. I’ve completed a significant portion of my privacy work. The routine for scrubbing our log files is in place and I’m working on a routine for the EZProxy log files. I’ve also completed the script to de-link information in ILLiad, but need to test it on a smaller data set before I run it againist the whole ILLiad database.
Second, I’ve been playing around with screencasting. I’ve been trying to create a screencast of my presentation from Computers in Libraries 2005, but I haven’t been completely successful yet. The Mac version of Powerpoint allows you to add audio narration to the powerpoint show and then save it as a .mov file. The only issue I have found though is that it create huge files (size wise). This isn’t helpful for posting things to the web. I’m still investigating to see if I can reduce the file size. If I can’t then I’ll have to look at other options. What I like about this method is that it is REALLY easy. You simply start the show running and record narration as it plays. Very easy. As I said the issue is with the size file it creates, but I’m hoping to be able to deal with this. I’ll report back what I find out.
CONGRATULATIONS on one year!! Keep it up!
