Library Web Chic posted on Audiobooks on mp3 players and how libraries could get in on this grooovy new thing. The private sector is obviously doing this already, some for free, but she makes great points about how libraries could fill a gap. People are already doing this! They're paying tons of money to company's for their poddy books... OR, *gasp* they're stealing them, breaking copyright laws. We, as libraries, should be all over providing these for free- fits right in with our traditional roles, AND providing them legally so that the content generators (authors? creators?) get their just desserts and go right on generating that content that they do so well. So, to all the librarians out there- DO THIS! Look into it! It's easy to implement.... I'll help.::Insert:: Here, look, same day, Jenny Levine posted on an Audio EBook offer for libraries. Attention public librarians (MOM, are you listening?) AND state librarians too (NHSL, are you listening?) this would be an awesome service for the state library to provide to the smaller, rural libraries. ::(Post a new comment) [...]

Hi:

I've just started investigating how to get my book, Breakfast with the Antichrist, onto a Podio Book - which I will do, because the format interests me a lot. But previously I'd looked at making an audio book (since I own those rights and the publisher was not interested) and found that - surprisingly, I know - production costs are much more expensive for audio versions. The costs are on the recording end, rather than duplicating tapes and sending them out.

It looks like I will be attempting an amateur recording which hopefully will be professional enough for Podiocast, the company I'm using. They were pretty emphatic that the MP3 recording had to meet their standard. I don't whether I'll be able to do that.

Anyways, it's nice to find out that there's at least one person who enjoys this format and it encourages me to go ahead.

Please feel free to check out my Website and I notice that you have 'library' in your name so ... ahem ... also feel free to order my book for your library.
