Plea for help

Okay so we’ve been going nuts trying to get the auth_ldap module for Apache 1.3 to work. We don’t have any problem getting it to work insecurely. However, we can’t seem to get the secure version of it to work. The directions say to install it with either the Netscape Directory SDK, or the OpenLDAP SDK. However, we can’t seem to figure out how to get these installed on our server. We have OpenLDAP installed on the server and can connect to the desired LDAP server using the client. But we don’t know how to get auth_ldap working securely. Does anyone know where we might get or build the OpenLDAP or Netscape Directory SDKs from? We’ve been really frustrated because there is a similar module in Apache 2.0 mod_auth_ldap that requires one of the same SDKs but doesn’t say where to get it or build it from. Can anyone help us out and point us in the right direction?
