The Journal Aspects of Blogs
Nov 23rd, 2005 by Karen
Meredith has a good post about her life for the last year as chronicled by her blog. She talks about how her blog allows her to look back at what she has done. For me this is one of the most important aspects of blogging, it allows you to keep track of where you been and what you’ve done professionally. Both successes, failures and everything in between. When I have a particularly difficult work day or week technologically, or professionally, I can look at back at my blog and see past obstacles that I have overcome or dealt with. It is heartening to know that professionally life goes on even though sometime projects fail miserably or you can’t seem to get buy-in.
My blog also has given me a better perspective on what I am actually accomplishing. Sometimes it seems like I am not getting very much done. However, when I look at my blog I realize that there is actual change, and movement over time. I also realize by reading past entries that my priorities and perspective has evolved over time. This explains why some projects never get finished and others appear out of no where and are suddenly done. It is amazing to see how things change over time and where my energies get devoted based on what new technologies, issues, and problem I encounter.
