Bloglines alternatives
Feb 3rd, 2006 by Karen
I’ve been increasingly frustrated with Bloglines the last month. Mostly due the fact that it doesn’t seem to pull in information from feed that have been updated. As a result, today I took the plunge and imported my OPML into Rojo. There are several things that I instantly liked about Rojo. First, I can mark things to save and have them kept in a seperate place from things I haven’t read yet. Second, I can tag entries. This allows me to better find stuff I’ve saved. This is really nice since I can have 50+ things saved in my aggregator at any time. I also like the share this story button which allows you to add your own comments to a story. The only thing I would really like is a “Blog This” button that would allow me to repost a story to my blog. I have a Firefox extension and a bookmarklet that does this. However, I’ve noticed it doesn’t work as nicely as I would like sometimes it makes a mess of the HTML. Plus, if the “Blog This” button worked like the one in Flickr it would add attribution information which is missing when I use my bookmarklet or extension.
I haven’t looked close enough yet to see if Rojo has a true API, but the “Services for Bloggers” page has some pretty neat links. I’m especially interested in linking posts in my blog with a given tag to content I’ve saved/shared in Rojo with the same tag. I know I can create a from my tags in Wordpress to stories in tagged the same way by anyone in Rojo. However, I’ll need to so some further digging to see if it is possible to link to things I’ve tagged a certain way in Rojo.
