Discoveries at the public library

I’ve been very busy the last month making some serious lifestyle changes due a migraine-filled spring. During this process I made some interesting discoveries at the public library. I’d primarily been using the local branch to get fun reading. However, here are a few things that I discovered in the last month that have endeared me even more to the public library.
- Cookbooks - I’ve been trying to learn how to cook more healthy, and cook in general. The public library has a great collection of cookbooks. Cookbooks from some chef’s I’ve seen on the Food Network and PBS. This is great because I can try recipes and incorporate the ones I like into my personal set of recipes.
- Exercise videos both VHS and DVDs which is a great way to try before you buy.
- Exercise books on tai chi, yoga, etc which help you learn different techniques and detail what exercises are good what which muscles
I’ve also had great luck requesting books from other branches. Even when there are several people in line ahead of me (hold wise) I still get the book in a reasonable amount of time. The best thing is that I can place my requests online and basically always have something new to pickup.
It is really nice to have a public library with such a variety of materials at my disposal. Previously I’ve lived in areas where the public library had a much more limited set or resources. I feel quite spoiled right now. Although I still wish that the science fiction fantasy collection was better at my branch but across the system the sci-fi collection has good variety.

as far as science-fiction and fantasy goes probably a local used bookstore has tons of material for very cheap. Most aren’t to thrilled to hang onto the stuff.
