Arrived at ALA
Jun 24th, 2006 by Karen
I arrived in New Orleans yesterday late afternoon, after a long but pleasant drive with some folks from MPOW. After negotiating the one way streets to drop people off, I was glad to be out of the car and walking about. New Orleans isn’t really what I expected. There are some very cute parts that remind me a little of my trip to Paris, parts that are terribly raucous, and parts that incredibly run down, sad and dirty. The really interesting part is that all of this is intermixed. My co-workers who had been here before pointed out that a some of what I’m noticing is stuff that existed pre-Katrina.
After spending some time exploring, a bunch of us went to dinner late at a fabulous restaurant called “The Court of Two Sisters”. The food was extrodinary, the setting lovely and serene, and the company terrific. We stayed out late and then collapsed when we got back to the hotel. Today is the first full day of conference and luckily its a pretty laid back day. All the fun is this evening and I’m sure I’ll be exhausted.
