New cell phone
Apr 22nd, 2007 by Karen
My cell phone has gotten kind of old and worn. So I decided to replace it with a Motorola KRAZR. What I like about the Krazer is that it is simple and sleek. It use a semi-standard connector to hook up to the computer, as well as being Bluetooth enabled. However, the big reason I chose the KRAZR is the fact that iSync will work with it. At least so the Mac website says. Upon testing this is is the case for my Address Book, but I haven’t been able to get iCal to sync. This is annoying because it seems like it should work and does work for other KRAZR, Mac, Verizon folks. Sigh.
The other thing that it kind of annoying was the way I had to get MP3s on the phone. I can get photos, and videos on and off the phone using Bluetooth no problem. But music alas, no joy. This isn’t a huge problem. I didn’t buy the phone to be an MP3 player. I have an iPod mini that I love. It just would be an added bonus. In order, to get music on the phone I need to preload it on to an external mini SD memory card and then put that card into the phone. I see now why so many folks are frustrated with Verizon. Stuff that should work easily doesn’t always. Yet at the same time, as far as coverage I don’t really want another carrier. It is a rock and hard place situation.
All in all though the phone was a worthwhile upgrade and I’m hoping that if I do a bit more hacking I’ll figure out how to get my calendar on the phone. That would make it nearly perfect.

A fiend was telling me about the Motorola phones this week and he mentioned that when syncing the phone’s address book with the Mac Address Book that separate entries in the phone’s address book were created for each phone number in a Mac Address Book entry. In other words, if an entry in the Mac’s Address Book had a home, a work, and a mobile number, that would translate to three distinct entries on the phone.
Ack! Substitute “friend” for “fiend” — my ‘r’ key is breaking and sometimes doesn’t fire when pressed!
Did you ever figure out how to sync your ical?? I am having the same problem…
I picked up an LG AX8600 a few months ago. It’s LG’s equivalent to a Motorola RAZR/KRAZR. The video, mp3’s, pics and everything are excellent. I’d highly recommend this phone to anyone that uses these features regularly.
Hi Karen did you ever get your calenderto Sync with your KRAZR
Steve
I never got iCal to sync. The folks at Verizon and the Mac store told me it wasn’t possible. Sigh. Wish I had better news. If anyone else gets it to work let me know.
Yes, i love the RAZR and also the KRAZR too, but have shifted to a Nokia N81 mobile this year, 08. GPD.
