Fun with Microformats
Apr 23rd, 2007 by Karen
One piece of the Libraries site design is the incorporation of microformats into the site. The first implementation of microformats is on our contact information pages, the ones that list librarians’ phone numbers, emails, etc. Microformats are really quite cool and to test them out I installed a Firefox extension called Operator. Using this extension you can use a number of different microformats in interesting ways.
- You can add information from hCard microformats to your address book
- You can add information from hCalendar microformats to Google Calendar
- You can use information in the Tag microformat to search for those tags in del.icio.us, Flickr, and Technorati.
Our hCard microformats are not in production yet, but I’ll post a link when they are up and running.
Update: Our pages that use the hcard microformat went live today. Check them out on our Librarian Listing page. Remember you need a tool capable of reading the microformats in order to see them in action!
