Try, try again

After having some folks here test my combination fixed width/dynamic width design, I discovered some problems. Luckily I was able to work them out and in the process discovered that given the right constrains IE 7 will recognize a min-width attribute. The result (I hope) is a design which now scales up in Safari, Mozilla-based browsers, and IE 7. I need to have my committee do some more testing but I am praying fervently to the gods of XHTML and CSS that this design will work properly. (One reason my other one didn’t work was the browser cached the CSS and I wasn’t seeing what was going on when I tested. ARGH!)
Here are a few more CSS resources that have been invaluable in my attempts to combined 1 fixed column, 1 dynamic column, and an absolute positioned image.
Conflicting Absolute PositionsÂ
Also a few things that helped me get 2 and 3 column layouts with some fixed width columns and some dynamic (ie so overall the site scales up!)
CSS Layout Techniques: for Fun and Profit
The thing with CSS is to be truly good at it you need to do it a lot. Since coding is a much smaller part of my job in the last two years. I’ve been rusty. So that meant hitting the books. Knowing the specs inside and out really helps. But so does having contact who you can get to help you troubleshoot. I’m looking forward to finishing this project but I’ve also added a new more sites to my aggregator to help me keep up with the latest CSS trick and techniques.
