What to do when Airport Extreme software goes missing
Mar 19th, 2008 by Karen
Last week I was working from home on a bunch of little projects some of them personal some professional. One mini project I’ve been working on is getting our media computer (the Mac Mini attached to the TV) hooked up to talk to our TB hard drive via the Airport Extreme. However, it seems that my Airport Extreme software CD has gone missing. I searched the house and checked all the normal places with no success. Then I thought I’d try the web to see if Apple’s website had it available for download. Unfortunately, they don’t and I’m not sure why.
You might ask why this is an issue. Well, the Airport Extreme disk comes with a little utility on it called “Airport Disk Utility” that allows you to connect to a hard drive you’ve plugged into your Airport Extreme. It will also reconnect to this hard drive automatically on reboot if you ask it. I can connect to the hard drive other ways but this utility makes it SO easy. Also I need the Airport Utility in order to maintain my Airport Extreme from any other computer than my laptop.
So after some serious cursing for losing the CD followed by some serious Googling I found a helpful blog post that describes how I might solve my problem. My alternate solution was to borrow a friends Airport Extreme disk a make a copy. (Which BTW I still intend to do and this time I’ll put it in a safe place).
