Participating in IFLA from afar

Like several colleagues, I’m getting to participate in IFLA from afar. The program which is sponsored by the US State Department allows us to give a webcast presentation and allow participants in Milan and elsewhere around the world to ask questions. By luck of the draw my friend and colleague Michael Stephens is the first to present and my presentation on how libraries can make their virtual presence shine is the last. In between Michael and I is a stellar group of librarians talking about a variety of topics.

One of the coolest parts of the program is the fact that anyone can participate

The general public is invited to participate in these webchats. To do so, please go to http://statedept.connectsolutions.com/ifla. No registration is needed. Simply choose “Enter as a Guest,” type in your preferred screen name, and join the discussion. We accept questions and comments in advance of, and at any time during, the program.

I’m really excited about participating in the program because it will give me a chance to discuss issues near and dear to my heart with a wide range of colleagues. One of the things I liked most about getting to attend ELAG this spring is that I was able to get a different perspective on library technology issues. Hearing my European library colleagues thoughts was really eye opening. So I’m thrilled that this program is going to bring together librarians from all over the world and let them exchange ideas and that I get to participate.
